Types of Links for Off-Page SEO

There are three types of main links:

Inbound Links

An inbound link is a link which resides on another website and when clicked land the user to our website.

An inbound link comprises of two things.

First one is a website link, which is the URL of our page.

The second one is the anchor text. The text which is highlighted in the link and takes the user to our website.

To increase more referral traffic, try to build internal links as much as you can. This is because Google uses inbound links to gauge the traits of your content.

Points which need to keep in your mind before creating inbound links:

  1. Try to create an inbound link on pages having thousand or more links.
  1. Never create inbound links from low domain authority websites.
  1. Never pay for inbound links.
  1. You can create inbound links on images, text etc.

Outbound Links

Outbound links are also known as external links. These links will direct your users from your website to a different website. If the other websites are links to you, it is an outbound link. And if we link to other websites, it is also an outbound link.

Try to give more focus and build more outbound links. Because search engines consider that what others are saying about you is not important. Important is what you are saying about yourself.

Or you can say if many websites links with your website, your website’s value are increasing. And it helps you to attain a higher ranking.

It’s quite difficult to manipulate external links. And it is one of the good ways for search engines to recognize the importance and popularity of the website. It is one of the vital sources of ranking power.

Types of Outbound Links

There are two types of outbound links:

  1. doFollow
  2. follow

Dofollow links pass the equity from our website to the target website whereas Nofollow links do not.

Nofollow links simply instruct the search engines not to follow the links.

By default, all the links do-follow. To create a nofollow link, you have to add the rel=”nofollow” within your tag.

 Example: <a  rel=”nofollow”>advertising<a>

Best Practices for Outbound links

Today many search engines use different measures to determine the significance of outbound links. Some of this measure includes:

The fidelity and reliability of the linking page

The goodwill of the linking domain

The importance of the content between the target domain and the source domain.

Owner’s relationship between the target and the source linking domain

Things which needs to keep in mind for outbound linking

  • Lookout different ways for natural linking
  • If you are facing difficulties in making outbound links naturally, then you can use some tools. These tools can help you to find links which are pertinent to your website.
  • Never go towards backlinks providers. Because they quickly build fake links and uses bots instead of natural traffic. Google can penalize you for this.
  • Make sure your links always open in different tabs.
  • Avoid making too many external links. By doing this, you are distracting your users and forcing them to go to other websites.

Importance of outbound links

You can Maximize the value

Producing high-quality content can differentiate you from your rivals. And if you are linking websites, which also produces high-quality content can instantly boost value for your readers.

By doing this, users will come back and read your blogs. They also get to know that your website has good stuff on the web for that topic.

Through this way, you can drive more natural traffic and can boost your ranking as well.

Helps in reforming the website’s reputation

If your website has a high domain authority website’s external links, you can improve your reputation.

Let’s consider it as an association form: you are telling to everyone that you are operating in same circles as the colossal names in your field.

Generally, the user may not visit all the different high authority sites to get all info they require. Just provide shortcuts so they can find information will help you consider a specialist.

Helps to increase the relevance

Every search engine has its algorithm through which they can learn everything about the website. It comprises of website’s internal links, outbound links, and font-size etc. Links in our websites provides clues to bots about the rivals we have, the industry we are in etc.

If we are providing backlinks to high DA (Domain Authority) pages, then we are building search engine trust. It implies that we are a lawful performer in our industry. It helps us to attain a higher ranking in SERPs,(Search Engine Result Page).

Internal Links

Internal links are those hyperlinks which take the user from one page to another page on the same domain. We generally use them in navigation.

These types of links are helpful for some reasons:

  • Permits the user to navigate a site.
  • It helps to maintain the information on a website systematically.
  • It can spread the ranking power all over the website and consequently increases the ranking of each page.

Here are the general causes which show why search engine bots cannot reach to your web pages:

  • Sometimes you embed links in flash, java or some other plug-in. Search engines can’t access them.
  • If you build links using JavaScript, it is possible that bots may not crawl them. We recommend you to use standard HTML links, not JavaScript-based links.
  • Links which are only reachable through search boxes. It implies search engine bots will not make any searches to find the content. That’s why there are tons of pages which are not accessible by bots.
  • It may be possible that robots.txt file or Meta robots tags restricting the bots to access the page.
  • Avoid doing linking on pages which already has thousands of links.

Importance of Internal Links

Internal links help the search engines to search and index all of the pages on your website.

Let’s understand this with an example:

Suppose you post a new page and did not link it anywhere on the website. Also, it does not have backlinks and not on the sitemap as well. Then how bots can find it? Bots cannot find it and search engines think that it doesn’t exist.

Do you know that Google always searches unique pages and add them to the directory of recognized pages? Some pages are notorious because Google had already crawled them. Google can also find other pages when it follows a link from recognized page to a new page.

Pages which don’t have internal links points to them are orphan pages.

Internal links can help to send page ranks to important pages. If a page has more internal links, its page rank is also high. But remember the quality of links plays a significant role than the quantity of links.
